Business Experience

Currently a public company director of FNQ NRM Ltd., trading as Terrain Natural Resource Management, serving as Director – Industry. Also a director of The Droughtmaster Stud Breeders’ Society Limited and president of its Far North Zone.

I operate, in partnership with my wife Sue, a cane and cattle property at Bilyana in the new CCRC region. We breed mainly Droughtmaster and also Dexter cattle and supply cane to South Johnstone Mill.

Previously Company Secretary of Tully Sugar Ltd. from 1997 until my retirement in 2006.

Before moving to the Far North I was the Company Secretary of Wormald International Limited, a position I held for over twelve years. Wormald, by market capitalisation, was in the top twenty companies in Australia at the time. The sale of this company to overseas interests precipitated my desire for a sea change and consequently a move from Sydney to the Tropics.

Prior to this I worked in accounting and then management positions for public companies including Westfield Holdings, the Soul Pattinson / Brickworks group and Shannons Limited.

My earliest business experience was in chartered accounting with a founding firm for KPMG.

Local Community Involvement

Chairman of the Cassowary Coast Marine Advisory Group to the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. Currently in my second three-year term as chairman, having served two previous terms as a committee member.

Chairman of the Tully Floodplain Steering Committee, since its inception two years ago. This committee is moving from the planning to implementation stage.

Chairman of Cardwell Shire Catchment Management Association Inc. since 2005. After a name change to reflect amalgamation, this association will be heavily involved in the implementation of the Floodplain Plan.

Chairman of the Industry Advisory Group to Terrain from 2004 to the present.

Inaugural president of the Mission Beach Community Association and currently a vice-president. Previously president of the former South Mission and Wongaling Beaches Community Association for several terms.

Member of the Cardwell Shire Traffic Advisory Committee from 2004 to the present.

Member of the Community Reference Group for the Cardwell Shire Storm Surge and Inundation Study in 2006.

Member of the Cyclone Larry Grant Committee for Environmental Rehabilitation in 2006.

Member of the Rural Water Use Efficiency Committee (round three) in 2006/07.
