Managing Our Future
WHO AM I?
My family settled in this region in 1927. I was born in Innisfail,
married here and raised 2 children here. Except for a 10 year period I have lived in this region and I have such a passion
for this area I haven't considered living anywhere else.
I was a Councillor on the Johnstone Shire Council from 1997 to 2000.
I have a clear understanding of the workings and requirements of local government.
During my time as a Councillor I believe I demonstrated a high level
of personal integrity along with my ability to work as part of a team to achieve best results.
As a successful businessman for over 30 years I will bring a sound
understanding of financial management to Council decision making.
For 2 years in 2001 and 2002 I was President of the Innisfail Chamber
of Commerce. In that period membership of the Chamber increased from 25 to 98.
Currently I work across the Cassowary Coast region as a Marriage Celebrant.
I have no real estate interests other than my own home.
I BELIEVE:
The Cassowary Coast region has an exciting future in both tourism
and agriculture providing it's well managed. I believe we can attract economic development and grow our community without
damaging our greatest assets - our environment and lifestyle.
Developers need to be closely monitored to ensure that infrastructure
costs of new subdivisions do not impose extra rates on the community.
I AM COMMITTED TO:
Working full-time as a Councillor should I be elected.
Managing the Shire's financial resources so that we live within our
means. Money must be allocated progressively for maintenance of Council assets.
Keeping rates as low as possible while still ensuring that we can
afford important infrastructure. I will lobby State and Federal governments to increase their funding to the Cassowary Coast
region.
Decision making around the council table which is conducted in a professional
manner. This of course means mutual respect and includes informed and vigorous debate.
Setting remuneration for all elected Council members at the lower
end of the scale set recently by the Old Electoral Commission.
Engaging the community in informed debate and consultation on major
issues.
Creating happy and viable communities with Council participation and
support for varied aspects of our lives. These include support for libraries, town planning, cultural and environmental events,
parks and gardens, youth development, and sports and recreation. Council's business extends beyond the core concerns of roads,
water and rubbish collection.
The creation of the Cassowary Coast Regional Council will bring many
challenges. If I am elected I will do my utmost to make the transition a smooth one for us all. I look forward to your support
and I invite you to contact me on 4061 3155 or email me at parakas@cvberwizards.com.au no matter what division you
live in.
