Hinchinbrook Regional Arts Assn Inc is proud to announce the inaugural Cardwell
Art Prize 2008
With the support of Cardwell Shire Council and our generous sponsors, we plan to mark the passing of our
local council boundaries with a celebration of all that is memorable and great about our historic shire. "Celebrating Historic Cardwell Shire," will be the theme of the major prize at the exhibition.
The exhibition will celebrates our historic shire, its people, places, history, happenings,
art and life from any and every aspect. It seems only fitting that such a celebration should take place in Cardwell by the
Sea within the historic precinct where our shire began in 1864.
With categories for painting, sculpture, pottery, textile, photography, computer graphics, timber, functional
work, traditional craft, youth and almost any art and craft medium you can imagine. The exhibition aims to encourage all creative
members of the community to participate. In addition to all entries being judged for the major prize, entrants will be able
to nominate the categories in which they wish to enter. Significant prizes will be awarded for each category including a youth
section and people’s choice awards.
Formed in 2001 and incorporated as Hinchinbrook Regional Arts Association in 2002, our community arts group
has held many small exhibitions at the Cardwell Gallery but this will be our first major exhibition and competition event.
Hinchinbrook Regional Arts are excited to be able to use the gallery space provided at the new Cardwell Library. It is a wonderful
new facility for Cardwell and a great asset to our arts and craft community. We hope that this year’s exhibition will
be the first of many that add additional colour and interest to life in historic Cardwell by the Sea and our surrounding communities.
Hinchinbrook Regional Arts Assn Inc gratefully acknowledges the support of our sponsors who have generously
provided prizes to the value of $2500. Without this sponsorship the exhibition
would not be possible.
Entry forms will be available from Cardwell Gallery, 156 Victoria St Cardwell or by telephoning 4066 2475 / email cardwellgallery@bigpond.com to have a copy posted or emailed and
they are avaialable at our website www.users.bigpond.com/cardwellgallery or search on Cardwell Gallery and click on Cardwell Art Prize. Entries close on May 9th.
