In Deanna Conti, North Queensland has one of Australia's major tapestry artists. An artist
who raised a traditional skill to the level significant in modern art.
Deanna studied both art and sculpture on a full time and part time basis at RMIT University
Melbourne. Later she studied under Jack Louitt, a noted master weaver for the past 35 years with Marquis of Bute and Gobelin
Artelier, France.
Along with her own designs she has completed commissions for other Australian artists
- Leonard French, John Olsen, Clifton Pugh, Frank Werther, John Corburn and Tibor Hubay. The artist has lived off Timana Island,
3 miles off Dunk Island for the past 30 years. It is here this environmental influence is reflected in both her designs and
luminous colours.
