The search is on for Australia’s Ultimate Green Ambassdors!
From the car to the classroom, in
the home or at the local park…wherever they are, we want to hear about them!
The 2008 Commonwealth Bank Green Ambassador Awards launched today, looking for young people who are determined to make
a difference.
Now in its fourth
year, the program will acknowledge Australians aged 16 to 30 who are championing green initiatives in one of the following
five categories:
·
At Home… living green and doing what it takes to reduce their household’s environmental
impact
· At Work… taking action,
influencing and empowering others to reduce the ‘footprint’ of the workplace and its employees
· At School, TAFE, College or University… positively influencing other students, teachers and the administration
· On the Road… using ‘smart
travel’ practices to minimise negative effects on the environment
·
In the Community… actively participating in or leading practical conservation activities in local
neighborhoods
“As part of our ongoing commitment to the environment,
the Bank is proud to be involved in a program that recognises and rewards our young Australians for the fantastic work they
do and their leadership in environmentally sustainable living”, said Barbara Chapman, Group Executive HR and Group Services,
Commonwealth Bank.
Five individuals, one from each of the categories,
will be crowned national Green Ambassadors. To reward their hard work, the Commonwealth Bank will give each ambassador an
award winning Naturewise eco-tour, giving them the chance to get up close and personal with Australia’s great outdoors. One runner-up Ambassador will be selected for
each category, with each receiving a five day Conservation Break with Conservation Volunteers.
Previous ambassadors have made good use of their green
credentials: going on to study Environmental Management at University, working with Conservation Volunteers and even standing
for local election.
Colin Jackson, Chief Executive Officer Conservation Volunteers Australia, said “The Green Ambassador program is a fantastic way to recognise
budding young conservationists. By creating five categories we are able to recognize and reward the efforts of individuals
who are working hard to protect their environment, regardless of how big or small the initiative.”
Nominate a Green Ambassador online now at www.commbank.com.au/greenambassadors or call Conservation Volunteers on 1800 032 501 for
more information.
Applications are open until Friday 24 October
2008.
