Divisions Have Been Prepared

Six divisions have been decided upon for the election of the new Cassowary Coast Regional Council on 15th March 2008. And though JSC and CSC submitted separate suggestions they were very similar excepting CSC wanting Silkwood in its entirety in one division.

JSC submitted that Innisfail be divided into three divisions. Johnstone River providing a natural boundary with northern and southern divisions, with Innisfail West division taking in CBD area, Goondi and Belvedere, Upper Daragee and South Palmerston, and South Johnstone.

North East Division takes in Innisfail Estate, Flying Fish Point, Daragee, Cullinane and Mighell.

Innisfail South Division includes East Innisfail, South Innisfail, Etty Bay, Mourilyan, Martyville and Basilisk.

Division 3 includes all of the Mission Beach area – South Mission to Garners Beach- and encompasses El Arish, Kurrimine and Cowley Beaches.

Cardwell Shire's hinterland Tully Division takes in Tully, Silkwood, Japoonvale, Mena Creek, El Arish and Feluga.

The Southern Division covers all areas south of Tully, including Cardwell and Hinchinbrook Island.

The termination of the services of the Council’s Chief Executive Officer also gave rise to concerns as to the probity of that action and matters relating to Councillors’ liabilities under the Council’s Code of Conduct and other policy and legislative instruments governing the behaviour of Councillors.
