Queensland 150th Community Funding Program Round 3 closes - celebrate and commemorate the anniversary through activities and projects that reflect the unique culture, heritage and aspirations of our own community. The Queensland Government has committed $4 million to the Q150 Community Funding Program. Not-for-profit incorporated community organisations, local councils and tertiary institutions throughout Queensland will be eligible to apply for grants of between $2 000 and $10 000. Also assists to identify local cultural development opportunities that will revitalise the community socially and economically. The Blueprint for the Bush is a 10-year plan to build a strong rural Queensland of sustainable, liveable and prosperous communities.

Mentoring scheme for young artists explained Arts Nexus is association with the Youth Arts Queensland is providing an lunchtime information session on the Young Artist Mentoring Program (YAMP) at Arts Nexus at City Arcade, 78 Grafton Street Cairns from 12 noon – 2.00pm next Wednesday 24 September.  Open to young regional applicants aged 18-26, the YAMP program presented by Sarah Woodland of Youth Arts Queensland (pictured) provides support for young people interested in an arts career of any kind to make their aspirations a viable option.  YAMP provides support for young artists, performers or artsworkers to team up with a suitable mentor in their specialised field to guide and support them to realize their creative career ambitions. THE YOUNG FILMMAKERS FESTIVAL QUEENSLAND GOES LIVE ONLINE - At 4pm people who can't make it to the Film Festival will be able to download and watch the 15 short listed films ("Shortlist 2008" web page). At 6.30pm the Awards Ceremony will be streamed live online through our website  www.youngfilmmakersfestivalqueensland.com 

This format will ensure that all young people no matter their location can participate in this Festival. Join us, our Master of Ceremonies- Sean Choolburra and the short listed filmmakers to witness who will be announced as the winner of "Best Film"

Mission Beach Artists Gallery – RAKU WORKSHOP with Meredith Moreau and Michelle Larsen. Following the success of the Raku Workshops in previous months, we are holding another two day session.   This workshop will be to build your own items from Raku Clay which will then be bisque fired in preparation for glazing and subsequent firing in the Raku Kilns in October. 9.00 am to 4.00 pm – Members $40.00 – Non-members $45.00   There will be an additional cost for materials and firing.

Bring one or two CLEAN, PLAIN, LIGHT-COLOURED TEE SHIRTS and have fun creating your own designs.   This workshop is also open to older children from 11 upwards, who will be doing more advanced work on separate tables from the younger children.

 

FNQ Volunteers Inc. is undertaking a community research project throughout FNQ to capture a snapshot of volunteering over the past 150 years.
